Markets of Cambodia

I love markets. Cambodia has some very interesting ones. From the Old Market in Siem Reap to Central Market and the Russian Market in Phnom Penh. Here are some snapshots of these interesting markets. There may be photos that may offend or upset vegetarians and animal lovers.

Silver Pagoda - Phnom Penh, Cambodia

We spent a few short days in Phnom Penh. Cambodians practise Theravada Buddhism and temples are a plenty all over Cambodia. We stopped in at the Silver Pagoda one afternoon. It is the home of their revered head monk who is held in high esteem by the heads of many Asian leaders who have his number on speed dial for advice and guidance. We sat waiting in the reception area with a newly married couple, their family and other devotees for an audience with the reverend monk. He finally appeared after a couple of hours' wait. While giving a sermon to his devotees, his mobile phone rang. We couldn't believe it when he stopped his preaching to take the call. Most amusing. He was most gentle and mild-mannered. One can only assume that it must have been a very important call. Perhaps one of the Asian leaders seeking his advice to make some important decision.
